Getting to the airport and finding my rental car took more time then I expected but I could chose which one I wanted and got a bigger one for the same price. It's grey/silver Christlar and has all the features a car should have. Driving an automatic wasn't that hard, only hit the break a few times harder then planed...
And after only one tour around the airport I was on my way to Niagara and didn't get lost at all...
Caroline my host told me where I could drive for free and take the people mover, the shuttle bus. But as it's still low season, it wasn't going that far yet. There was this elderly couple who first wanted to give me a lift to the fall but ended up showing me around the strip. It was nice but all I really wanted to do was go and see the falls. I managed to do the Maid of the Mist, where a boat takes you close to the falls. It's amazing, so much power! After that I had a longer then expected walk to my car and around 7 pm, I called Caroline to tell her I was on my way...
I was welcomed not only by Caroline, but also by Eric, a fellow couchsurfer. We talked for a bit and then decided to drive into town to eat. We went to a great pizza place where Jeremy, a friend of Caroline, joined us. After pizza we still went to a bar for a goodnight cap. There we had the greates evening ever. This lady comes in from the street and she starts performing for us as there was a stage in the bar. It wasn't only fun but just hilarious! Something that can only happen to you by accident...
Next morning Eric and I went back to the falls. As I still had two tickets for the people mover, we parked near the Chinese Budhist temple where you could take one. Sadly enough, it was only 9.30 and the service started at 10 so we walked down. Eric first took the boat while I waited for him, enjoying the view of the falls and writing some postcards. Then we went to the journey behind the falls, what it is, is in the name....
As there are also several vineyards between Niagara and Niagara at the lake, that was our program for the afternoon. The area is known for the ice wine, wine made from frozen grapes. Very sweet and very expensive but at the first place we stopped, we got a card for free tasting at another. Afther that, we went for a tour and as I had just started, we could join for free and taste some more wine...
We rested a bit before we went to the Saucer for dinner, an amazing place, kinda weird but with cheap food and fast services. After that we went to see the falls all lit up for the night....
